Our Plant

Our first steps

Farma has followed a road of hope that has taken us from our first steps as a representative of pharmaceutical companies to becoming one of the leading medication manufacturers in Venezuela. We are present in the homes of all Venezuelans, helping them stay healthy or restore their health with top-quality, effective medications that have earned the trust of the medical establishment.

Our current plant, located in the city of Maracay, Aragua State, is noted for its facilities, state-of-the-art technology, painstaking processes and dedication to the quality of the raw materials used in the production and dispensing of medications.

Proof of this is that, from the moment the plant was built in 2008 and began its operations, it was awarded the Good Manufacturing Practice certification and has been routinely recertified ever since.

It has now been 80 years since Farma began its operations in Venezuela. During this time we have achieved many of the goals we have set ourselves since 1941, when we started out in a small house in the San Bernardino neighborhood in Caracas as the representatives of a Swiss pharmaceutical company, up to our present status as a major group of local companies dedicated to the production and sale of medications: FARMA, LABORATORIOS FARMA, LABORATORIOS NOVAPHARMA and KONSUMA DE VENEZUELA.

Our story includes a number of events that represented major steps, not only for the growth of the company but also for the development of the country. One of these was the construction of our production plant in Los Ruices, in Caracas, in 1971. For 30 years this facility was the core of an expansion achieved thanks to the efforts of many, most especially our workers.

Then this new, 21st century, brought our plant in Maracay, a pharmaceutical facility with an installed capacity for the production of 30 million units, considered one of the most advanced in the country and in Latin America, awarded the Good Manufacturing Practices certification as proof of the high quality standards.

Since 2008, when that plant began operations, the company has invested, not only in infrastructure and equipment but also in know-how, as is the case of the Pharmaceutical Development Center where work is carried out on new formulas and the development of innovations, many aimed at replacement of imports, a project we have been working on since 2014, making us the top pharmaceutical research and development company in Venezuela.

We currently offer our Venezuelan patients 160 pharmaceutical products for cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal and respiratory ailments, osteoporosis, pain killers and cold medications among others.
First and foremost, the protagonists of our story have been our workers, currently more than 750 men and women who deal with the challenges that Farma faces with dedication, passion and commitment.

The challenges of today and tomorrow

Every day brings new challenges, some short-term, day-to-day challenges involving our production activities and the supply of medications for the domestic market. We strive constantly to keep our plant working at the top capacity that the supply of raw materials, inputs and equipment will allow in order to meet the needs of 7% of the domestic pharmaceutical market. We are currently endeavoring to cover the demand not filled by competitors who have left the market and replace products for treating similar therapeutic needs.

We focus on longer-term challenges also, such as the project for the substitution of imported medications that we launched in 2014, opening a window of opportunity. This will allow for gradual increases not only of job opportunities, but also in the proportion of domestically-produced/imported products that we supply. Today we are proud to say that 6 out of every 10 products that we distribute are made by us, and only four are imported. We do not, however, feel that this is enough; our goal is for 8 out of every 10 products to be manufactured at our plant.

Our story in Venezuela still has many chapters to be written in the years to come. That is our commitment: To take very good care of you!
